Brown | Trinity Rep M.F.A. Programs in Acting and Directing

About

A rich legacy of training the whole theater artist.

Brown/ Trinity Rep is a rigorous professional training program that combines technical training from Brown University with real-world experience at a Tony Award-winning regional theater. The ultimate goal of the Brown/ Trinity Rep M.F.A. Programs is to produce artists who will be leaders in the world of professional and academic theater, artists who will graduate with a profound belief in the uniqueness of their own imaginative vision as well as with strong confidence in their technical and creative ability to execute it. They will be ready to enter the competitive professional industry with clear-sightedness and hope, and eager to engage in the life-long exploration and discovery that comprises a life in the theater.

In the first year of training, students are required to participate in a collaborative program of acting, directing, and playwriting, regardless of their primary interest. Through directly engaging in the techniques and processes involved in each discipline, students are encouraged to become true collaborators and to break down the barriers that have traditionally separated actors, directors, and playwrights.

The M.F.A. curriculum provides a rigorous technical training program taught by a resident faculty and supplemented by guest artists from the professional and academic arenas.
Students are fully involved in the life of Trinity Repertory Company. They have the opportunity to work as actors, assistant directors, and dramaturgs on Trinity Rep productions, to be taught by members of the company, and to attend rehearsals and performances.
