David Valdes is an award-winning playwright and novelist. His plays have been performed coast to coast in the US and abroad. His published plays include Brave Navigator and The Mermaid Hour. A past fellow with the Huntington Theater Company, Company One, Ensemble Studio Theater, Cimientos, and Boston Foundation, his plays have appeared in the National New Play Showcase, Orlando Shakes, Portland Stage Little Festival of the Unexpected. He is the author of seven books, including three young adult novels. He teaches theater at Boston Conservatory and fiction at Tufts University. As a gay Cuban-American he is especially interested in uplifting Queer and BIPOC voices, and decentering bias.
